An Internet site can improve your business
The Internet is a logical place to promote your products and services.
More and more people are using the Internet to look for products or to get answers to their questions about certain
products.
Your Internet site needs to have a clear vision to be effective. Keep in mind the audience you are selling to,
and design your entire site around the items of interest to these people.
Make sure that your contact information (street address, telephone number, etc.) is clearly visible on every page
of your site. Many of your home page readers will come to your site via a search engine. This means that they may
not be at your “first” page and could be left in the dark as to how to contact you.
Keep your page customer-oriented. Your readers are interested in what you can do for them. Tell them what benefits
they will receive when they buy your products or services. A company biography and history may be of interest to
some readers, but don't make it a part of your first page. If potential customers really care about such information,
they can click to go to another page.
Give your readers a reason to contact you. Offer a freebie, such as a discount coupon for a first purchase made
by a given date. Or perhaps you can offer a checklist of purchasing do's and don'ts for the products you specialize
in.
If you trade links with other Internet sites, be careful where you put these links on your site. If you put outgoing
links near the top of a page, the readers may exit your site before they have read what you have to offer. Get
your site linked to any and all local online business directories, such as the Chamber of Commerce.
Be sure to print your Internet address on all your printed material (letterhead, business cards, invoices, catalog,
etc.).
Consider a single page summary of your site containing all the contact information and a quick summary of your
products and services. This page should have very little artwork so that it can be quickly printed by your reader.
Think of it as an enlarged business card that the reader can print and retain after he or she exits your site.
