Major Tax Deadlines

For October 2001

  • October 1 - Deadline for calendar-year corporate estimated tax payments. However, corporations directly affected by the September 11 terrorist attacks can postpone making their third quarter estimated tax payment until January 15, 2002.
  • October 1 - Deadline for self-employeds and small businesses to establish a SIMPLE retirement plan for 2001.
  • October 15 - Filing deadline for most 2000 individual tax returns on second extensions. Taxpayers directly affected by the terrorist attacks have until February 12, 2002, to file their returns.
  • October 15 - If you converted a regular IRA to a Roth IRA in 2000 and now want to switch back to a regular IRA, you have until October 15, 2001, to do so without penalty.
