Alloy Alert - Haiti Tax Relief

In the aftermath of a devastating natural disaster,
millions across the globe are uniting to aid in
the relief of Haiti’s earthquake victims.
If you’ve made or plan to make a donation between
January 11, 2010 and March 1, 2010, you could be eligible
to claim the donation on either your 2009 or 2010 tax return.
Taxpayers who itemize their deductions may claim cash contributions, payable to certain qualifying organizations specifically for the relief of victims in areas affected by the January 12, 2010, earthquake in Haiti, on either their 2009 or 2010 tax returns. Donations must be made after January 11, 2010, and before March 1, 2010, to qualified charities, not designated for the benefit of specific individuals or families, and may be made via text message, check, credit or debit card. Taxpayers are reminded that contributions to foreign organizations are generally non-deductible and that taxpayers must keep a record of any deductible donations made. Additional information on organizations assisting in the relief effort may be obtained from the U.S. Agency for International Development (www.usaid.gov).
