Spotlight on Marvin Alloy

In continuation of our 40th Anniversary Celebration, this quarter we will focus on founder Marvin Alloy. Currently residing in Cheltenham, Pennsylvania with his wife, Sandi, Marvin was born and raised in Philadelphia. He received his Bachelor's Degree in Economics from the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School of Finance and Commerce. After three years of service in the United States Navy, Marvin began practicing in the field of public accounting on a full time basis in 1947.
In 1959, Marvin merged his public accounting practice with that of Raymond Silverstein and they established a new firm, Alloy and Silverstein. In 1960, Steven Shapiro joined the firm. Marvin has represented a diverse clientele over the years, but has specialized expertise with real estate ownership and development companies as well as with local water and sewerage companies. His real estate clients include apartment communities, shopping centers, hotels and office complexes. He has acted as an advocate on behalf of landlords of apartment communities before various Rent Control Boards. Marvin's experience with respect to water and sewerage companies includes advising on accounting matters and tax regulations, filing annual reports required by various state Public Utility Commissions, preparation of rate increase applications and expert witness testimony.
Marvin has served as a member of the Board of Directors of numerous local corporations and charitable organizations. He received his certified public accounting license in the District of Columbia in 1949. He became a member of the Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants in 1950, New Jersey Society of Certified Public Accountants in 1959 and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants in 1961.
Outside the firm, Marvin enjoys athletic activities including golf, tennis and walking.
