NJ Saver Rebate

Applications for 1999 NJ Saver Rebates were mailed in early May. The program, in the second year of its five-year phase in, will provide property tax relief to qualified NJ homeowners. Applications must be filed by June 30, 2000 and rebate checks are scheduled to be issued by September 30, 2000.

You should have been sent an application if you received a 1998 NJ Saver Rebate, or if you would have received one but did not because your homestead rebate was greater. Applications were also mailed to individuals who bought or constructed a home between October 2, 1998 and October 1, 1999.

You may file your application by calling the NJ Saver Rebate Filing System at 877.658.2972 or 609.826.4288.

You may also apply online at: www.state.nj.us/treasury/taxation/

The average rebate for tax year 1998 was $240, with an increase over the next three years to $600 for tax year 2002.

Homeowners are advised to apply for both the NJ Saver Rebate and the homestead rebate, and they will receive whichever provides a greater benefit.
